Swimming in the Rain

“Hey,” my friend texts me, “I’m 10 minutes away, do you want to go with me and swim in the rain?” ❤️

In other words: Summer has arrived. Really really. I go to bed after the sun has just dipped below the horizon and is rising again. The birds start singing at 2 am. (This makes me happy.)

A Swedish Christmas.

Like always. I keep thinking that I won’t make it home for Christmas, but this year – again – it just happened to work with my travel plans. Nice, but at some point I also want to be dramatically missed. Sweetly told somewhere that ‘is it not difficult being without your family?’ but also surrounded by good enough people that it isn’t, not really. Maybe next year.

(But to clarify, it is amazing being home. I have an amazingly amazing family. Here we are on a frozen lake my grandma later told us not to walk on.)

And now, writing this, it’s the dark evening leading up to the new year. My head is pounding and I want to sleep sort of, but I think I’ll read some poetry and stay awake the way you’re supposed to. I’ll wait a bit longer. That’s been the theme of my whole year.

(Does it sound like I’m not happy? I’m happy. Just on my period, ya know girls. I’m good.)

Teaching and Learning

I’ve now worked 6 days as an English teacher. And I’ve concluded that teachers deserve a weekend after every day. Most people do I guess, but last week really felt like an eternity. I have almost 150 students, divided into 7 classes, and I’ve never done this before. LIKE ARE YOU KIDDING ME, I have no idea what I’m doing. The week before all the students arrived we were supposed to prepare and stuff, and I literally spent some time just writing nonsense on a paper so that at least I would look busy.

I’m figuring it out though. And I do like it. Today, monday again, and I didn’t have the constant nervousness making me tense from the core. And I like standing in front of a class. But time is not enough, so much more to do at every moment. I live and breathe this, but I guess that’s a thing of habit too. Maybe in a few weeks I’ll be able to relax more. Until then, I’ll just try to do this as well as I can.

And I just wanted to write this short update since I don’t think I’ve even mentioned this job here. I’m only gonna work until christmas though, since they can’t hire anyone for longer if they’re not a legit teacher, which I’m not. And that’s okay, then I’ll do something else. I don’t really know what yet.

And now, before we go, some hipster pictures from spending the friday night in our summer house.

Oh, and a GIF from when we tried to go paddling and rowing. Only to realize that we forgot the key to our boat and canoe. They’re locked together. But we decided to try anyways. Did not get very far but we had fun, sometimes life’s like that. ezgif.com-gif-maker

Good night!

The clay under the sand

On the beach next to my grandma’s summer house we found a pier where I asked my mother to put her hand in the water for it to look like she’s magic. I don’t know, she might be. And underneath the sand you can find clay that you can shape and let dry, or just apply all over your body for a homemade clay mask thingy. We looked very strange. It was a good day. IMG_7101IMG_7117IMG_7135
